When Is I Am Legend 2 Coming Out
I Am Legend 2 was announced back in March 2022. A confirmation was laid out that Will Smith will be returning to the role of Dr. Robert Neville and will be joined by Michael B. Jordan in I Am Legend 2. As of now,we do not have a release date for I Am Legend 2 but since the movie has been in the works since 2022, there is a possibility that it can come out by late 2024 or mid 2025.
What Could be the Cast of I Am Legend 2
Not a lot of cast members for I Am Legend 2 have been announced and as of now, the only confirmed cast members are Will Smith as Dr. Robert Neville and Michael B. Jordan in an undisclosed role. Initially, Will Smith was not up for creating this sequel. In an interview withBBC Radio 1, Will Smith stated that he probably not be a part of I Am Legend 2. He stated-
“Producers are working on it. I’m not actually working on it,” he said at the time. “If it’s great, I’m into it. I don’t want to be ‘the sequel guy.’ I figure I’ve got about six or seven more years.”
Later in March 2022, it came to light in a conversation withEntertainment Tonightthat Will Smith has changed his mind and will be a part of the sequel. Even though he did not reveal any plot details, in his conversation he stated-
“It was one of those ones I was gonna leave alone, and then I heard the idea.I can’t talk about it yet, but it’s a really, really cool concept and (Michael B. Jordan) was a part of creating the idea.”

What Could Be the I Am Legend 2 Plot
The complete plot details for I Am Legend 2 have not yet been revealed to us. However, Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter for the upcoming sequel mentioned that he has taken inspiration from The Last of Us series released in 2023 in a conversation withDeadline. He did mention that the movie will take place a couple of decades after the events of I Am Legend unfolded. In his conversation, she stated-
“I’m obsessed withThe Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30 year lapse. You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens? That will be especially visual in New York.”
Is I Am Legend 2 Based Off the Alternate Ending
Yes, Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter of the movie, has also confirmed that I Am Legend 2 will stick closer to the original novel by Richard Matheson. Akiva also said that they are going to stick with the alternate ending of I Am Legend and that will be a more authentic novel adaptation as compared to the first movie.
“”We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”
