How to Make Copper Grates in Minecraft 1.21

You may have thought that the copper block family was diverse enough already and didn’t need to be expanded. Surprisingly, Mojang had other plans as theMinecraft 1.21 updatehasbrought five new copper blocksthat are all unique in their own way. Today, we will be taking a look at one of these new blocks, the copper grate, including its crafting recipe and uses in Minecraft 1.21.

How to Copper Grates in Minecraft 1.21

First, we will discuss the step-by-step process to make copper grates using a crafting table and then the stonecutter. So, after you gather the resources, follow the steps below.

Using a Crafting Table

This recipe allows you to also pre-make copper grates of the specific oxidation just by using the copper blocks of the same oxidation stage.

Using a Stonecutter

Place the stonecutter in your world and right-click to open its UI. It’s different from the regular crafting grid. Once you’re in the stonecutter UI, follow the steps below:

Where Can You Find Copper Grates

Copper grates are generated naturally intrial chambers. These structures generate underground in the Overworld. There are four simple ways tofind trial chambers in Minecraftand our linked guide will teach you all about them.

Copper grates usually generate as the floor of upper levels inside the trial chambers. Furthermore, they occasionally make up the walls between rooms or parts inside the rooms, so you can see what awaits you on the other side.

Minecraft Copper Grate Properties

Copper grates have one and only one use in the game, and it is to enhance your Minecraft builds as much as possible. These building blocks havefour different texturesfor each stage of oxidation, like all other copper blocks. So, for the cost of one, we receive four beautiful blocks in total.

The copper grate at any of the first three stages will slowly oxidize over time,changing its color fromorange to green. You can stop the oxidation process from advancing if you right-click the grate with ahoneycomband wax it. This will freeze its stage and appearance.

Alternatively, you can craft the waxed version by combining the block with the honeycomb in the crafting grid.

If you perhaps want to revert the grate back one oxidation stage back, you can do so by right-clicking it with an axe. However, if you’ve already applied honeycomb to the copper grate, you’ll just scrape off the wax by using an axe and allow the block to continue oxidizing if it hasn’t yet reached the final stage.

As we already mentioned, copper grates have a couple of special properties. They are transparent blocks, which means theylet the light tofullypass through. Moreover, hostile mobs are unable to spawn on top of the grate blocks. This makes copper grates useful in farms or for spawnproofing an area.

Also, whenever a mob is stuck inside the copper grate block, it won’t suffocate. This feature is more practical than you think as it makes sure the mob is safe and stationary in a certain spot. One more notable thing about the copper grates is that they cannot conductredstonesignals, which is also a property of glass blocks.
