How to Create My AI Snaps on Snapchat
Snapchat is not the first thing that strikes your mind when you think about generative AI. However, the social media app is hell-bent on introducing AI features within different parts of the app. One of their latest additions is My AI Snaps. But what exactly is My AI Snaps and how do you use it? We’ll break it all down for you in this post.
What is My AI Snaps Feature in Snapchat?
My AI Snaps is an image-generation feature that you can use tocreate AI images based on a text promptright within Snapchat. You can then add filters to this AI-generated image like you would do to any regular Snap, add captions if you want, then send it to your friends on the app or set it as your story.
The My AI Snap feature is currentlylimited to Snapchat+ subscribersand seems to be limited to U.S. users only. We used a VPN service to test the availability of this feature in other regions and the feature disappeared outside of the U.S.
How Does My AI Snaps Work?
If you have used anyAI image generation tool like Midjourney and DALL-Ebefore, you know what to expect. To make your own AI Snap, you can use the pre-curated prompts or create your own, like “a magical car flying across the sky” or “a man who turned himself into a pickle,” which has to be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
The images you can generate depend on how far your imagination goes. You can further add details to your prompt to refine the output images.
How to Create Images with My AI Snaps
Now that we have discussed what the feature is and how it works briefly, follow these steps to create your own AI Snap.
My Experience with Snapchat’s My AI Snaps
I experimented with the My AI Snaps feature for a few hours to give it a fair go, generating a variety of images to see if it is something you might want to use on Snapchat occasionally and came up with the following results.
After using some of Snapchat’s other AI features previously, I didn’t have high hopes for AI Snap. So at first, I decided to go easy on it and only used the template prompts that were provided already.
As you can see the results are mixed. Some of them managed to come close to the input prompt and were decent, while others missed the mark completely and spewed something bizarre and awkward.
Some prompts didn’t even work which begs the question, who curated them? Next, I wrote my ownMidjourney-like promptswith detailed instructions of what I was looking for. I mentioned the term “realistic” specifically as most results had a cartoonish or oil painting effect to them.
As you can see the results came out looking much better and accurate to the prompt. However, it is a trial-and-error process, which is honestly not worth that much effort.
So coming to the end, I have to say that My AI Snap is a good feature that didn’t need to be there in the first place. Yes, it can produce some good-looking images at times, but those moments are few and far between. It’s a party trick that you will likely use a few times when you are bored and can’t find anything interesting to click.
Similar to some of the other AI features on the applike AI Extend, it is not worth the Snapchat Plus subscription if you are planning to get one just to try this feature. Those who already have access to this AI image generation feature, share your thoughts in the comments below.
The AI Snaps option is available within the Snapchat camera viewfinder. You can spot it on the right side among other tools like Flash, Director Mode, and Dual Camera.
As of now, the My AI Snaps feature is limited to the U.S. since it is an early release. But soon it may roll out out to other regions as well.
Currently, there is no limit on image generation when using the in-app AI Snaps feature on Snapchat. However, you will have to buy Snapchat+ which will cost you $3.99 a month.
